Dining with Lawmakers

(Posted: August 14, 2009)

By John Stair
AZCOPS Vice President

The month of June provided AZCOPS leaders with the opportunity to thank many of the Arizona State Legislators who supported AZCOPS this past legislative year. AZCOPS leaders were honored to sponsor and attend both the Arizona Republican Party’s Governor’s Salute to the Legislature, and the Arizona Democratic Party’s 2009 Heritage Dinner. Legislators and leaders from both political parties were excited to have AZCOPS as a sponsor of their respective event.

As a non-partisan entity, AZCOPS continues to support legislators from all political parties who will stand up for the brave men and women who protect our communities throughout Arizona.

Whether it is patrolling the streets, manning a watch tower, or supervising felons within the community, Arizona’s brave officers deserve to have legislative leaders who will establish laws that will protect officers from criminals who seek to harm them. When legislators do so, AZCOPS stands ready to make their efforts known to the good citizens of the state.

In an era of partisan fighting both nationally and locally, AZCOPS seeks to remind legislators that they have been granted legislative authority by the people to pass just laws that preserve freedom for the innocent and punish those who are guilty.

AZCOPS would also like to thank and acknowledge the Arizona Probation Officers Association (AZPOA) who also sponsored both political events. AZCOPS probation officers are truly helping lead the way in the Arizona law enforcement community.
